Phlebotomy training is now widely offered to those who are very much interested to pursue a career in this field of expertise.
The duration of phlebotomy training varies depending on the level of experience desired. Some only takes 15 weeks while others take as long as 2 to 3 years of exposure. Any candidate is required to perform work for at least 200 hours in a clinical setting and complete a minimum of a 100 venipuncture. Majority of medical experts are already knowledgeable about the concept of drawing blood but not all of them are skilled in doing it without inflicting much pain to the patient. The main objective of the training in phlebotomy is to master the art of drawing blood with the least pain possible. Its training also includes subjects about proper patient care and handling. The most challenging part in phlebotomy jobs is the need to deal with patients who either have fear of needles or just do not want to cooperate because of the painful process.
Many nurses today have enrolled themselves in phlebotomy training and classes in the hopes of further improving their skills in patient care and handling. Training in phlebotomy also includes the proper disposal of the blood drawn. This part is very essential considering that blood is known as a carrier of many harmful diseases. Blood being drawn by phlebotomists are used for laboratory and donation purposes. A career as a phlebotomist is very suitable for those who want a job that pays well but does not demand much time and energy. Those who see it as a stepping stone may then take further training and apply for higher positions in the medical field.
